Amazing No-Barb 43G German Rooting Needles  **Please Read Note Below**

This is one of the smallest available needles for rooting.  They literally do not leave a visible hole and you really need very fine quality mohair to make them work well.  But OH, the results!!

These are not at all like the felting needles with barbs that we are used to using.  This needle has a tiny groove down to the end of the needle which picks up literally ONE hair at a time.  They are quite strong, despite their delicate appearance, and I rarely break one.   Click on More Images under the needle photo to see a sample of rooting done with this needle.

TIP:  I've found that you should rotate the needle til you find the "sweet spot" that picks up hair and then mark that position on the handle.  If you allow the needle to rotate while you root, you'll stop picking up hair.  I suggest you use a magnifying glass to find the fork on the end of the needle and keep it at the "7:00" (or pointing at your left shoulder if you're right handed) position as you root, inserting the needle perpendicular to the hair strands.

PRICING:
6 needles - $3.72
12 needles - $7.40
24 needles - $14.80
48 needles - $29.59

ALWAYS clean the needle with rubbing alcohol before using!!  The factory coats them with oil to prevent rust.  It's best to leave the factory oil on to protect your needles until just before you use them.

**It has been brought to my attention that people are having some difficulty getting this needle to root their mohair.  I have spoken with the supplier and they have thoroughly researched this problem for me.

The issue seems to be with the most recent production runs on these needles that there is a substance used in the manufacture that helps lubricate and protect the needles before use.  This substance builds up just a bit inside the microscopic fork at the end.  The solution is to punch the new needles into a piece of thick fabric (canvas, duck, denim, for example) a few times to clear the fork out.

With that said, this might be the most important information:

The 43g forked needle opening is .03mm or the equivalent of 30 microns.  Mohair is measured in microns.  The finest kid mohair is about 20-30 microns in width. Yearling mohair, which is what most of us are using, is 30-40 microns.

If you are not using first cut kid mohair or close to it (meaning the finest and silkiest available from your supplier) you are probably never going to successfully use the 43g German needles.  Your better choices for most yearling lock mohair is going to be a 43g 1 Barb needle, or the newer 46g Crowns, or a 42g German Forked needle.  This is still a good needle to have on hand for the times when you do purchase the super fine kid mohair.
